Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation for Key Appointees

On Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the Senate, requesting the confirmation of Taiwo Oyedele and other appointees. He urged for an accelerated screening and approval process.

The Senate, presided over by Godswill Akpabio, referred the matter to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration. Akpabio also read three additional correspondences from the President, including a request for the confirmation of Mainasara Ilo as the Executive Secretary and CEO of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre for a four-year tenure.

Furthermore, Akpabio announced the confirmation of three commissioners for the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, including Jossi Yaro and Sundai Adebayo. The Senate will also consider the appointments of Amina Gamawa from Bauchi State and Abdulahi Muktar from Kaduna State, with a mandate to report back within a week.

The plenary session adjourned on Wednesday, March 11, in honor of the late Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented Rivers South East.
