Tinubu's Historic State Visit to the UK Begins Today

President Bola Tinubu began a historic two-day state visit to the United Kingdom on March 18-19, 2023, accompanied by his wife, Oluremi Tinubu. This visit is significant as it marks the first time in 37 years that a Nigerian leader has visited the UK.

Tinubu was invited by King Charles III and Queen Camilla and aims to enhance bilateral relations between Nigeria and the UK. The agenda includes discussions on immigration, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

During the visit, Tinubu will hold private discussions and engage in interfaith dialogue, culminating in a state banquet hosted by the royal family. He is also scheduled to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to expand bilateral engagement.

A landmark financing deal worth $746 million was signed between the UK Export Finance and the Nigerian Port Authority to refurbish major maritime infrastructure in Nigeria. Tinubu's visit is expected to boost global confidence in Nigeria's economy and create new opportunities for trade and investment.
