Court Grants Sowore N200m Bail in Defamation Case

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Muhammad Umar, granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), in the amount of N200 million. The court mandated Sowore to produce two sureties, one of whom must own property in Abuja.

Additionally, Sowore is required to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the determination of the case. The prosecution, represented by the Department of State Services (DSS), alleges that Sowore made false claims against President Bola Tinubu, which were published on his Facebook account.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 30, where further arguments regarding the case will be presented. Sowore's bail was previously revoked due to his absence from earlier proceedings, leading to his remand at Kuje Correctional Centre.
