Court Grants N200M Bail to Omoyele Sowore with Conditions

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), in the sum of N200 million. This decision was made by Justice Muhammad Umar, who imposed strict conditions for the bail.
Sowore is required to produce two sureties, one of whom must be a traditional ruler, and the sureties must own property within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Additionally, the court ordered that the sureties be verified by the prosecution to ensure compliance with the bail conditions.
Sowore must also deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court pending the conclusion of his criminal proceedings. The charges against Sowore stem from allegations made by the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding false claims against President Bola Tinubu, which are considered defamatory under Nigerian law.
The court proceedings are set to continue, with the DSS expected to present evidence against Sowore.
