Tinubu's Commitment to Resolve Nigeria's Security Issues

Ambassador Ibrahim, Nigeria's new Permanent Representative to the United Nations, presented his letter of credence to UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York. He highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's determination to resolve Nigeria's security challenges, which are driven by unresolved grievances, including religious conflicts.

Ibrahim noted that Tinubu is committed to addressing the underlying issues to pave the way for lasting peace. He emphasized Nigeria's intensified efforts to build international partnerships to tackle domestic and regional security challenges, particularly threats emanating from the Sahel and West African sub-region.

The ambassador reaffirmed Nigeria's advocacy for reform within the UN system, especially the need for stronger African representation in the Security Council. He also mentioned Nigeria's historical role in UN peacekeeping operations and its commitment to global initiatives, including tax reform and climate action.

Ibrahim's appointment marks Nigeria's return to full diplomatic engagement with the UN after two years without a substantive permanent representative.
