Tinubu approves 18-month extensions for Correctional, Immigration leaders

President Bola Tinubu has approved 18-month tenure extensions for Sylvester Nwakuche, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, and Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service. Nwakuche's tenure will now end on May 26, 2028, while Nandap's will conclude on June 30, 2028.
The announcement was made in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, and it followed a recommendation from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The extensions aim to address a succession gap in both services, allowing sufficient time for the boards to appoint successors.
President Tinubu commended both leaders for their reforms and urged them to consolidate their achievements. Nwakuche was nominated in December 2024 and confirmed by the Senate in March 2025, succeeding Haliru Nababa.
Nandap was nominated on February 21, 2024, and confirmed on March 1, 2024. She had completed 35 years of service on October 9, 2024, and this is her second tenure extension.
