Tinubu Returns to Nigeria After Historic UK State Visit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady returned to Nigeria on Friday after a successful two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, which took place on March 18-19, 2026. This visit marked the first formal state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years, since 1989.

Upon their arrival, they were welcomed by top government officials, including the Senate President. The visit featured a ceremonial welcome with an honor guard and a state banquet hosted by the royal couple.

During the visit, President Tinubu engaged in high-level discussions with the UK Prime Minister, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations. Several agreements were signed, including a £746 million financing deal involving the UK Export Finance and the Nigerian Port Authority.

Additionally, both countries reached a new agreement to facilitate the return of failed Nigerian asylum seekers and those with visa overstays, aiming to improve migration management between the two nations.
