House Extends 2025 Budget Deadline to December 2026

On September 29, 2026, the House of Representatives approved an extension of the implementation deadline for the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026. This marks the fourth extension since the original deadline.

The Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, stated that the extension was necessary due to economic factors affecting Nigeria, which hindered the completion of capital projects within the previous timeframe. The initial extension was approved in December 2025, moving the deadline to March 31, 2026, following a request from President Bola Tinubu.

Subsequent extensions occurred on March 31, 2026, and June 15, 2026, pushing the deadlines to June 30, 2026, and September 30, 2026, respectively. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas confirmed that the capital budget had not been fully implemented, necessitating the latest extension to ensure ongoing projects are completed.
