Tinubu Government Boosts Civil Servants' Benefits

The Tinubu government has announced an increase in allowances, welfare benefits, and exit packages for Nigerian civil servants, as confirmed by Walson Jack, the head of the civil service. This increment will affect the consolidated public service salary structure and is designed to reflect across all grade levels, allowing for better earnings for both senior and junior officers.

Key reforms include a 100% increase in duty tour allowances for civil servants attending approved training programs, regardless of travel involvement. Additionally, the federal government is introducing a contributory pension scheme that will provide a 100% retirement exit package, which will take effect on January 1, 2026.

This move is part of efforts to enhance the dignity of retirement for public servants, ensuring that no civil servant leaves service without adequate financial support. Furthermore, the government confirmed the operationalization of an employee compensation scheme aimed at financially protecting workers who suffer job-related injuries or death, which is expected to boost the morale of the civil service workforce.
