Tinubu's New Allowance Structure for Civil Servants

Bosun Arebuwa, a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party and former Ondo State governorship aspirant, commended President Bola Tinubu for approving a new allowance structure for civil servants, which is expected to take effect on October 1, 2026. Arebuwa described the review as a timely relief for workers, aimed at improving their welfare and strengthening public service delivery.

The new structure includes various allowances for civil servants across different grade levels, with senior officers at grade levels 16 and 17 receiving 109,000 Naira, while lower grade levels will receive allowances ranging from 30,000 Naira to 737 Naira. However, the Nigerian Labour Congress, represented by General Secretary Benson Upah, expressed reservations, stating that the adjustments do not adequately reflect the economic pressures faced by Nigerian workers today.

Arebuwa also urged the federal government to intensify efforts in critical sectors, particularly security, emphasizing that economic progress cannot be achieved without a secure environment.
