Nigeria-Morocco $25bn Gas Pipeline Agreement This Year

A $25 billion intergovernmental agreement (IGA) for the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline is scheduled for signing this year, as reported by Amina Benkhadra, head of Morocco's Hydrocarbon Mine Agency (ONHYM). This pipeline, known as the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline, will span 6,900 km with a maximum capacity of 30 billion cubic meters (bcm), including 15 bcm to support Morocco's exports to Europe.

The project aims to enhance political and regulatory coordination among the 13 participating countries and is expected to spur economic integration across West Africa. The pipeline will be executed by a joint venture between ONHYM and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).

The first phase of the gas initiative is anticipated to commence in 2031, although it does not rely on a single global final investment decision. Investor interest remains strong, and the project will utilize a mix of equity and debt financing to attract investment.
