ADC Demands Investigation into Niger State Miners' Deaths

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for an independent investigation into the deaths of 37 miners in Niger State, asserting that the miners were alive when taken into government custody but returned to their families as corpses. In a statement from its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC demanded the establishment of the deceased's identities, autopsies, and prosecution of any culpable government officials.

The party emphasized that the circumstances surrounding the deaths necessitate a transparent investigation and access to detention records. The ADC expressed condolences to the families and argued that poverty and unemployment should not lead to loss of life.

They criticized the Tinubu administration for failing to provide jobs and for criminalizing the desperation of low-income Nigerians. The ADC linked the incident to broader economic issues, stating that the government continues to punish victims of its own failures while allowing powerful individuals involved in illegal activities to evade justice.
