Tinubu Calls for Investigation into Miners' Deaths in Niger

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mandated a full investigation into the deaths of suspected illegal miners who were detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) during enforcement operations at the Lt. Gen. Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi Estate in Minna, Niger State. In a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed that every Nigerian's life is important and that no citizen should die in government custody due to negligence or inhumane treatment.

He described the incident as serious and requiring urgent accountability. The President directed that any official found responsible for the deaths through negligence or abuse should be arrested and prosecuted.

He emphasized that enforcement operations must respect the dignity and rights of detainees. Additionally, he instructed the Ministry of Interior and NSCDC leadership to cooperate with investigative authorities to ensure a thorough inquiry.

Tinubu also extended condolences to the families of the deceased and called for calm in affected communities.
