Tinubu Govt Nominates Olufemi Elias For ICJ Seat

The Tinubu government has nominated Olufemi Elias for a seat on the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The upcoming judicial election, to be held in New York on November 12, will see member states vote to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Abdulqawi Ahmed, a Somali judge.

Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, formally presented Elias as a candidate, emphasizing his extensive legal and diplomatic experience. Elias, who currently serves as an ad hoc judge at the ICJ, comes from a distinguished legal background, with his father, Taslim Elias, having served as an ICJ judge from 1976 to 1991.

Tuggar expressed confidence in Elias's candidacy, stating that his election would strengthen the cause of global justice and advance peaceful dispute settlement among nations.
