Tinubu Celebrates World Hausa Day at Daura Palace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu delivered a message to commemorate World Hausa Day, acknowledging the rich cultural heritage and resilience of the Hausa people. He stated, “The Hausa language, without doubt, has flourished and has become a major language of unity and commerce across the world.” The celebration took place at the historic Daura Palace, where Tinubu congratulated the vast Hausa community.

The 2026 event, themed “Our Culture, Our Future,” focused on the preservation of language and heritage and attracted traditional rulers, scholars, and cultural dignitaries. The World Hausa Day Movement has gained international momentum, with university departments of Hausa, journalists, and activists promoting the language and its heritage.

World Hausa Day was introduced on August 26, 2015, by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari, aiming to raise awareness of the challenges facing the Hausa language and culture. Participants are encouraged to use Hausa on social media and share cultural traditions, making the event a significant global activity.
