Tinubu Meets with Speaker Abbas and Reps at Villa

On Friday afternoon, President Bola Tinubu conducted closed-door discussions with Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and members of the House of Representatives at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This meeting occurred shortly after the lawmakers joined the President for Jummah prayers at the State House mosque.

The specifics of the discussions were not disclosed, as sources remained anonymous regarding the content. Notably, this meeting took place just 48 hours after Senate President Godswill Akpabio held a similar closed-door meeting with Tinubu.

Reports indicate that the Senate is lobbying for automatic ticket returns ahead of the 2027 general elections, but the President has reportedly rejected this request, emphasizing that state governors should select candidates. This decision was confirmed by Niger State Governor Mohd Bago, who stated that the governors were instructed to conduct primaries based on the electoral act.

The APC's primary elections are scheduled to begin on May 15, 2026, with nomination forms going on sale the following Saturday.
