Tinubu Meets Ganduje, Badaru Amid APC Defections

On Tuesday night, President Bola Tinubu convened an urgent meeting with former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and former Jigawa State Governor Badaru Abubakar at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This meeting came in response to a wave of high-profile defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly in Kano, where former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has officially moved to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The discussions, held behind closed doors, focused on addressing the political uncertainties affecting the APC, especially following the defection of key figures such as Nasiru Gawuna, the APC's 2023 governorship candidate in Kano. Ganduje, who previously served as the APC national chairman until his resignation in July 2025, and Badaru, who recently resigned as Minister of Defence, left the meeting without commenting on its purpose.

The urgency of the meeting reflects the growing concerns within the APC regarding its stability in Kano and the potential shift towards the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by some party loyalists.
