Tinubu Urges APC Leaders to Retain Gawuna Amid Defection Rumors

President Bola Tinubu has instructed top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intervene and persuade former Kano State Deputy Governor Nasir Yusuf Gawuna to remain within the party and not defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or align with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso's Kwankwasiyya movement. This directive comes amid growing speculation regarding Gawuna's potential defection, which could significantly alter the political landscape in Kano ahead of the 2027 governorship elections.

Reports indicate that Gawuna has been considering an alliance with Kwankwaso to challenge the current Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf. Tensions within the APC have escalated due to Gawuna's alleged plans, prompting political interventions at the highest levels, including attempts by Governor Abba Yusuf to persuade him to stay.

Additionally, Gawuna's recent travels abroad during Ramadan have fueled speculation about his political intentions. The APC is reportedly considering offering Gawuna an automatic ticket for the Kano Central Senatorial District in the 2027 elections if he agrees to remain with the party.
