Tinubu Inaugurates Water Network for Abuja Satellite Towns

President Bola Tinubu has officially opened a water supply network serving satellite communities around Abuja, signalling a shift in government priorities toward underserved areas. The project connects Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, and Kurudu—densely populated towns on the periphery of the Federal Capital Territory that have historically lacked reliable access to clean water.

Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the administration at the commissioning event. The President framed the initiative as part of his broader Renewed Hope agenda, positioning it as evidence that his administration will translate campaign promises into concrete action beyond the central business district.

Tinubu described access to potable water as a fundamental human right and stated the government would no longer concentrate development in elite zones while neglecting residential areas outside the city centre. Karu, which has experienced rapid population growth in recent years, has relied heavily on unsafe boreholes and water vendors to meet daily needs.

Previous administrations left a trail of unfulfilled commitments to upgrade infrastructure in these communities. The new network aims to address this gap by providing safe water supply to residents who previously had limited options.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike's office oversaw the project's construction under the territorial administration. The government has signalled a broader focus on critical infrastructure deficits in satellite towns, marking a departure from past patterns of development concentration.

The commissioning represents one of the administration's early deliverables in the satellite town corridor.
