Tinubu Meets Rivers Sole Administrator as State of Emergency Nears End - Transition Plans Discussed

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibas (rtd), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as the state of emergency imposed on Rivers State nears its end. The state of emergency was declared on March 18, 2025, following a political crisis that led to the suspension of the Governor and Deputy Governor of the state.

The meeting, which lasted two hours, focused on security updates and transition arrangements ahead of the September 18 deadline. The federal intervention aimed to restore order and stability in Rivers State amidst violent clashes and legislative deadlock.

The discussions centered on a possible handover plan post-state of emergency to ensure continued peace and security in the region.
