Tinubu Mourns Passing of Ex-Super Eagles Coach Onigbinde

President Bola Tinubu mourned the death of Adegboy Onigbinde, the former head coach of Nigeria's national football team, who passed away at the age of 88. In a statement released on Tuesday by his special adviser, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu extended his sympathies to Onigbinde's family and the football community.

He commended Onigbinde's significant contributions to grassroots football development in Nigeria and acknowledged his historic leadership in guiding Nigeria to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in 1984. Tinubu praised Onigbinde's discipline, integrity, foresight, and passion for the game.

Onigbinde also led Nigeria in the 2002 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by Japan and South Korea, where Nigeria was eliminated in the group stage. He had previously coached the Green Eagles from 1982 to 1984 and later managed the Shooting Stars Sports Club in Ibadan.

His passing was confirmed by a family member, Bolad Adesuyi Onigbinde.
