Governor Adeleke Mourns Ex-Super Eagles Coach Onigbinde

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke expressed deep sorrow over the death of High Chief Adegboy Onigbinde, a former Super Eagles coach, describing the loss as painful and devastating. In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawal Rashe, Adeleke extended condolences to the people of Modakeke, Onigbinde's hometown, and the broader Nigerian football community.

He acknowledged Onigbinde's substantial contributions to the growth and development of football in Nigeria and Africa. Onigbinde notably led the Super Eagles during the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and Korea and was recognized for his tactical knowledge and ability to nurture talent.

His coaching career began in 1960, and he gained national recognition in 1977. He was the first indigenous coach to lead Nigeria's senior national team to a medal at the Africa Cup of Nations in 1984.

Adeleke urged everyone to honor Onigbinde's memory and sustain his legacy in football.
