Tinubu Mourns Former Super Eagles Coach Onigbinde

President Bola Tinubu extended his condolences on the passing of former Nigeria national team coach Adegboy Onigbinde, who died at the age of 88. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed sympathy to Onigbinde's family and the football community.

He recognized Onigbinde as a distinguished figure in Nigerian football, noting that he was the first indigenous coach of the Super Eagles in 1982. Tinubu commended Onigbinde's significant contributions to grassroots football and the overall development of the sport in Nigeria.

The President acknowledged Onigbinde's historical leadership in guiding the Super Eagles to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in 1984. Tinubu emphasized that Onigbinde's discipline, integrity, foresight, and passion for the game would be remembered, and he praised the late coach as a dedicated servant of football whose impact extended beyond Nigeria.

The Nigeria Football Federation described Onigbinde's passing as a major loss to Nigerian football.
