Tinubu Nominates Taiwo Oyedele as Finance Minister

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu nominated Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, succeeding Dori Uzoka. Oyedele, who is 50 years old, is a public policy expert and has served as the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform.

His nomination letter was conveyed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for confirmation. Oyedele will take over responsibilities from Uzoka, who previously held the position since July 2023 and has been reassigned to the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment.

Oyedele has a strong background in finance, having worked for over a decade at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and holds degrees from Yaba College of Technology, Oxford Brookes University, and Yale University. His appointment comes amid a significant tax reform initiative, with new tax laws set to take effect on January 1, 2026, following the passage of four key tax bills in June 2025.

His role will include direct supervision of the Nigerian Revenue Service.
