Tinubu Directs Immediate Release of Regional Development Funds

On Monday, President Bola Tinubu directed the immediate release of funds to Nigeria’s Regional Development Commissions, emphasizing the need for accountability and warning against corruption and ineffective projects. He made this announcement at the first North Central Stakeholders Development Summit organized by the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) in Abuja, where he was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

Tinubu stated that the Federal Government would continue to provide political and financial support to the commissions to address development gaps across the country. He specifically instructed the SGF to ensure timely fund releases and advised the commissions to seek additional funding sources beyond government allocations, such as public-private partnerships and donor support.

The President reiterated that the commissions were established under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda to accelerate development and close gaps across regions, focusing on projects that unlock economic potential and improve connectivity.
