Tinubu Hosts New Benin President Romuald Wadagni in Lagos

On Monday afternoon, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria welcomed Romuald Wadagni, the newly elected President of the Benin Republic, at his Lagos residence in Ikoyi. Wadagni arrived in Lagos accompanied by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, after landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja.

The two leaders held a closed-door meeting that lasted for 30 minutes. Romuald Wadagni was inaugurated as the President of Benin Republic on April 12, 2026, succeeding Patrice Talon, and his delegation included Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented him at the inauguration ceremony held the previous weekend.

This meeting underscores the ongoing alliance and cooperation between Nigeria and its neighboring country, Benin Republic, in the West African region.
