Tinubu Dissolves Obasanjo's Privatisation Committee

President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties (PIC), a body established during former President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration in 2000. The dissolution, effective November 5, 2025, was announced in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

All responsibilities of the committee will be transferred to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi. The decision was made after a review indicated that the PIC had exceeded its original mandate, leading to multiple litigations across Nigeria.

The committee was originally tasked with overseeing the privatisation and disposal of federal properties as part of a monetisation policy aimed at converting government assets into cash. The policy faced controversy due to disputes over property valuations and allegations of irregular sales.
