Tinubu's State Police Initiative Praised by Olisa Metuh

Olisa Metuh, the former National Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party, praised President Bola Tinubu for his leadership in advocating for the establishment of state police in Nigeria. In a statement issued on Thursday following the passage of the state police bill, Metuh characterized this development as a landmark achievement in Nigeria's security reform.

He emphasized that the establishment of state police would improve community policing, enhance intelligence gathering, ensure quicker responses to security threats, and strengthen the fight against kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and violent crime. Metuh urged state governors to collaborate with the federal government to ensure the successful implementation of the proposed reforms.

He also called for safeguards to prevent the abuse of state police for political intimidation and oppression, stressing the importance of operating within the constitutional rule of law. Metuh expressed confidence that the effective implementation of state police would significantly enhance internal security and contribute to a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
