Tinubu Seeks Guidance on INEC Chairman Successor Amid Yakubu's Appointment

Professor Mahmood Yakubu officially assumed leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in May. Amid speculation about his successor, sources revealed that President Bola Tinubu may favor Professor Joash Amupitan as Yakubu's replacement.

Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has reportedly undergone security screening and received institutional guidance from the current APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda. Yilwatda's experience as a former Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State has influenced Tinubu's decision-making process.

The transition at INEC comes amidst efforts to ensure a smooth handover and maintain the integrity of the electoral process in Nigeria.
