Tinubu Grants INEC Chairman National Honor as Term Ends

President Bola Tinubu accepted the departure of Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, as his second term ended. Tinubu praised Yakubu for his service in sustaining Nigeria's democracy and organizing free and fair elections.

In recognition of his service, Yakubu was granted the national honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). Tinubu directed a senior national commissioner to oversee the commission until a new chairman is appointed.

Yakubu expressed gratitude to Tinubu for the opportunity to serve as INEC chairman since 2015.
