Tinubu Advocates for Stronger Intra-African Trade Initiatives

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu disclosed Nigeria's intention to intensify collaboration with African countries to expand intra-African trade and enhance the digital economy. He stated that Nigeria would work towards dismantling trade barriers and modernizing border processes to connect African markets through technology.

This announcement was made in a message posted on verified social media accounts, welcoming policymakers, innovators, investors, and private sector leaders to the 2026 African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Forum in Lagos. Tinubu emphasized the need to translate agreements into tangible economic opportunities for citizens.

He highlighted Nigeria's role as a champion of the AfCFTA digital trade initiative and outlined specific policy actions aimed at accelerating trade and economic integration. The reforms include creating a single window for trade facilitation, improving customs administration, and ensuring faster cargo clearance.

Tinubu expressed confidence that Africa's economic future would be driven by digital trade, with Nigeria committed to building greater intra-African trade.
