Tinubu to Launch AU Maritime Task Force for Gulf Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to flag off the African Union (AU) Combined Maritime Task Force aimed at strengthening maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea. This initiative is part of efforts to combat piracy, illegal fishing, and transnational maritime threats across West and Central African waters.

The event will take place in Abuja and marks the commencement of activities celebrating the Nigerian Navy's 70th anniversary. Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Idi Abba disclosed that the event will feature an international fleet review at Eko Atlantic Waterfront in Lagos, where President Tinubu will also conduct a troop presentation and commission three new vessels for the Nigerian Navy.

The task force, established under the auspices of the African Union Peace and Security Council, is prepared for deployment across the Gulf of Guinea, which spans 6,000 kilometers. The event will also see participation from various foreign naval vessels and dignitaries, highlighting Nigeria's commitment to regional maritime security.
