Tinubu Strengthens Nigeria's Maritime Security Forces

On Monday, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated three new naval vessels—NN Oloibiri, NN Mambila, and NN Gurara—along with a combined maritime task force for the Gulf of Guinea at the Eko Atlantic Waterfront in Lagos. This initiative aims to enhance Nigeria's maritime security architecture, reflecting the government's commitment to addressing piracy and oil theft in Nigerian waters.

During the event, Tinubu highlighted the Nigerian Navy's evolution since its establishment in 1956 and its critical role in national security and economic prosperity. He noted the Navy's success in eradicating piracy and curtailing crude oil theft, which has contributed to increased oil production and broader economic growth.

The President also commended the Navy's role in counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations across the country. He expressed confidence in the Navy's future capabilities and urged the service to maintain high standards of professionalism.

The combined maritime task force is seen as a significant step toward strengthening multinational cooperation against maritime crime in the region.
