Tinubu Lauds Kaduna's CNG Transit Scheme for Cost Relief

President Bola Tinubu commended the Kaduna State government's free compressed natural gas (CNG) mass transit scheme, calling it a people-focused intervention that should be emulated by other states. He highlighted the initiative's role in reducing transportation costs and providing relief to households, especially amid rising global energy prices.

The commendation followed a meeting with governors on August 27, where they agreed to implement measures for substantial relief in commuting expenses starting October 1. An implementation committee was formed under the Nigeria Governors Forum, led by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The Kaduna scheme, featuring a fleet of 100 CNG-powered buses, has facilitated approximately 3.2 million passenger trips and saved commuters over N3.5 billion in its first year. Tinubu reiterated that Nigeria's abundant gas resources could help mitigate vulnerabilities to international oil price fluctuations, opposing a return to costly petrol subsidies.
