Tinubu to Swear in Olatunji Disu as New IGP Wednesday

President Bola Tinubu is set to swear in Olatunji Disu as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Wednesday, following a unanimous endorsement from the Nigeria Police Council. The swearing-in ceremony will occur during a Federal Executive Council meeting scheduled for that day.

Bayo Onanuga, a special adviser to the president, announced this on Monday. The meeting will be attended by key figures including Vice President Kashim Shettima, state governors, and the chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu.

Disu, who is 59 years old and was born on April 13, 1966, joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, and has held various positions, including Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit. His appointment follows the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.

Several governors, including Nyesom Wike and Abdullahi Sule, praised Disu's exemplary service, particularly during his tenure as commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos from 2015 to 2021.
