Gbajabiamila Addresses Nigeria's Economic Challenges

Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, remarked that the Nigerian economy is in a precarious state, particularly since Tinubu assumed office. He acknowledged that while the administration's decision to maintain fuel subsidies could inflict hardship, it is essential for Nigeria's future to prioritize eliminating these subsidies.

Speaking at the Work People's Unit Good Governance Summit in Abuja, Gbajabiamila highlighted that the current economic policies have resulted in significant annual costs, disproportionately benefiting a few while burdening ordinary citizens. He emphasized that the government must not only administer but also take bold reform actions to improve livelihoods and create economic opportunities.

Gbajabiamila pointed out that the administration's approach should distinguish between governing as a politician and as a statesman, with the latter focusing on long-term solutions. He also noted that the removal of fuel subsidies has placed a heavy burden on households, traders, and workers, leading to increased costs of living.
