Tinubu Vows To Address Insecurity In Nigeria, Commends Armed Forces As Japanese PM Pledges $5.5bn Support For Africa

President Bola Tinubu reiterated his administration's commitment to addressing the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria and strengthening the country's security apparatus. Speaking at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Yokohama, Japan, Tinubu commended the Nigerian armed forces for their success in combating insurgency and criminality, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity, diversity, and the rule of law in maintaining Nigeria's strength.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba pledged $5.5 billion in support for Africa, focusing on private and sustainable growth, youth and women empowerment, and regional integration. Tinubu highlighted the ongoing investment in infrastructure and institutional reform in Nigeria, calling for cooperation and partnership across nations to achieve peace, stability, and meaningful development.

He also urged the Japanese government to support reforms in the United Nations, particularly in the Security Council, to give African countries fair and equitable representation.
