Tinubu Commits to Boosting Sports After Commonwealth Success

On Tuesday, Bola Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, pledged to strengthen sports development and create more opportunities for Nigerian athletes after Team Nigeria's commendable performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. Nigeria secured a total of 24 medals, comprising 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze, making it the best-performing African nation at the Games.

Tinubu described this achievement as a reflection of the resilience, discipline, and determination of Nigerian athletes. In a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu reiterated his administration's commitment to investing in sports development, enhancing sporting institutions, and improving training facilities.

He congratulated Team Nigeria for representing the nation with dignity and pride and acknowledged the efforts of athletes, coaches, and officials. Tinubu also commended the leadership of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the National Sports Commission for their support in sports development.
