Tinubu to Swiftly Sign State Police Bill, Says Kalu

Orji Uzor Kalu, the Chairman of the Special Ad Hoc Committee, expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will sign the state police bill "with the speed of light." This bill is part of the constitutional review process aimed at establishing state police services in Nigeria. The committee is reviewing 26 clauses of the bill, which includes amendments to various sections of the 1999 Constitution.

Kalu, who serves as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, emphasized the importance of the bill in addressing security challenges in Nigeria. He noted that the bill had previously been considered by the House on June 11, 2006, but was rescinded by the President on July 14, 2023.

Kalu highlighted the need for collaboration between the executive and legislative branches to ensure the bill's passage and timely assent by the President. The committee plans to present the bill during the House's plenary session on Tuesday.
