Nigerian Military Airstrike in Borno Sparks Controversy

Olusegun Dada, a special assistant on social media, defended the Nigerian military's airstrike on Jilli Village, located near the Borno-Yobe border, stating that individuals conducting business with terrorists are legitimate military targets. This comment followed a controversial airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force on a market in Jilli on Saturday, which was part of Operation Hadin Kai.

The military claimed the operation was based on sustained intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance, indicating the presence of terrorist logistics. However, local sources reported that the airstrike resulted in civilian casualties, with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency confirming at least 40 civilian deaths, although this figure remains unverified.

The military maintained that Jilli Village has long been identified as a terrorist logistics corridor. Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum urged caution and cooperation with security agencies, acknowledging the inadvertent impact on civilians.
