Tinubu Urged to Investigate Extrajudicial Killings in Imo

Following allegations of extrajudicial killings and the disappearance of suspects in the South-east, President Bola Tinubu is called upon to order an independent investigation into claims made by Amnesty International. The organization reported that hundreds of unidentified bodies were allegedly moved from mortuaries in Imo State to undisclosed locations.

Despite a return to peace in the region, human rights groups and residents have continued to raise concerns about security operations, particularly 'Operation Python Dance,' conducted by the Nigerian Army under former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd.). This operation, first launched in late 2016, faced significant opposition from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by then President General John Nwodo, who described it as an invasion.

Allegations of arbitrary arrests, torture, and killings during these operations have persisted, contributing to ongoing insecurity in the region.
