Tinubu's Presidency Responds to Atiku's US Petition

The Presidency has responded to Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), regarding his recent petition filed in the United States against President Bola Tinubu. Atiku's lobbying group submitted petitions to President Donald Trump and the US State Department concerning a civil forfeiture case from 1993.

Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesperson, expressed disappointment that Atiku would revive an issue that was resolved over 30 years ago, stating it has been thoroughly litigated and rendered moot by the electoral mandates given to Tinubu by the people of Lagos and Nigeria. Onanuga criticized Atiku's actions as inappropriate, undermining Nigeria's dignity and independence, and described them as incongruous with the responsibilities of a statesman.

He emphasized that Nigeria is a sovereign nation and that reporting its president to foreign leaders is self-defeating and diminishes Atiku's stature as an elder statesman.
