Tinubu’s State Visit: Nigeria, Brazil To Sign Aviation Deal, Unlock Direct Flights

Nigeria and Brazil are set to sign an aviation deal that will unlock direct flights between the two countries, following a state visit by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to Brasília. The Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) will allow Nigerian carriers like Air Peace and Caverton to operate direct routes across the South Atlantic, with expectations of four to five weekly flights.

The agreement, which began negotiations in May 2025, aims to reduce travel time, cut logistics costs, and open new trade corridors, especially for agricultural products and manufactured goods. The deal also includes technical cooperation on pilot training and airport infrastructure upgrades to strengthen Nigeria's global aviation position.

Minister Keyamo emphasized that the agreement will go beyond aviation to cement cultural and economic ties between the two nations.
