Nigeria Faces Governance Crisis Under Tinubu's Leadership

Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Nigeria has experienced significant governance failures. The country is currently burdened with a debt of N160 trillion, and the administration has reportedly squandered N9.3 trillion saved from fuel subsidies on non-capital expenses.

Basic education and healthcare have deteriorated, leading to 20 million out-of-school children and high rates of infant and maternal mortality. The government has also been criticized for pervasive insecurity, resulting in 350,000 civilian deaths and over 900,000 internally displaced persons.

Constitutional violations have been noted, including alterations to the 2025 tax reform bill and the seizure of taxpayer assets without court orders. The overall governance has been described as undemocratic, with budget padding and a lack of accountability.

As a result, Nigeria is facing unprecedented levels of poverty, with 180 million citizens living in multidimensional poverty.
