Tobi Amusan Claims Gold at African Championships in Ghana

Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles, secured Nigeria's first gold medal at the 2026 CAA African Senior Athletics Championships held in Accra, Ghana, with a winning time of 12.83 seconds. This victory represents Amusan's fourth title in the African Championships, having previously won in 2015, 2019, and 2024.

In the same event, Nigerian athlete Adaobi Tabugbo earned a bronze medal, while Zimbabwe's Ashlei Miller took the silver. The championships faced challenges, including issues with timing devices that complicated the competition.

Amusan's performance was her first outdoor season competition in the 100m hurdles, and she dominated the event through the heats and semifinals. In other events, Rosemary Chukwuma was initially announced as the winner of the women's short sprint but was later confirmed to have won silver after a photo finish review.

Nigerian athletes also performed well in other events, with Oladipo winning silver in the men's discus throw and Obiageri Amaechi securing bronze.
