Tony Nwoye Elected Senate Minority Whip Unanimously

Tony Nwoye has emerged as the Senate Minority Whip, having been unanimously chosen during a plenary session on Wednesday. This development confirms Nwoye's new role following the defection of his predecessor from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who read a letter on the Senate floor regarding this decision. Nwoye's election is seen as a strategic alignment with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Tinubu, who described the APC as a stable political platform in the country.

Nwoye was elected to the Senate in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) but later defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in late 2025.
