July 2026: Sudan Leads Africa in Inflation Rates

As of July 2026, inflation rates across Africa remain elevated, with Sudan recording the highest rate at 41.61%. Nigeria ranks third with an inflation rate of 15.43%, despite a further easing in price pressures.

The figures are compiled from the latest consumer price index (CPI) reports from national statistical agencies and central banks, reflecting readings from June to July 2026. Other notable inflation rates include Botswana at 9.40%, São Tomé and Príncipe at 9.70%, Libya at 12.70%, Egypt at 13.00%, Rwanda at 14.50%, and Sierra Leone at 14.77%.

Botswana's inflation rate decreased due to lower domestic fuel prices, while Egypt's inflation rose due to significant increases in housing, transport, and education costs. Rwanda's inflation increase was driven by rising prices in transport and energy.

The data excludes South Sudan, as its latest inflation data is from May 2025.
