El-Rufai Investigated for Alleged Thallium Procurement

Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor, has been dragged into an investigation by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) concerning allegations of procuring approximately 10 kilograms of thallium sulfate from Poland. A letter written by Brig Gen O.M.

Adesuyi on behalf of the ONSA acknowledges receipt of correspondence dated February 11, 2026, which requested clarification regarding the alleged procurement. The letter indicates that ONSA has received information suggesting that the procurement may be available to political opposition leadership.

It states that ONSA neither procured nor initiated the process to purchase the material and has no intent to do so. However, it further directs the Department of State Services (DSS) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.

The letter emphasizes that relevant parties will be invited to provide evidence to assist in establishing the facts and ensuring due diligence. As of now, el-Rufai has not publicly reacted to these developments.
