Zazzau Emir Advocates for Constitutional Reform in Nigeria

The Emir of Zazzau, Ahm Nuhu Bamali, has called for constitutional reform to formally define and strengthen the role of traditional rulers in governance, particularly in peacebuilding and grassroots development. Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations forum in Kaduna State, he highlighted that traditional institutions in Northern Nigeria have historically served as stabilizing forces in communities, especially during conflicts.

Despite their significance, traditional rulers have not received adequate institutional backing to function effectively. The Emir noted that traditional leaders actively promote peace and discourage violence and hate speech, working alongside stakeholders to influence positive outcomes in their communities.

He emphasized that sustaining peace is essential for agricultural productivity, as farmers can only contribute effectively when they can farm safely. Governor Uba Sani, represented by Sadeeq Maman Lago, assured that traditional rulers would continue to be included in governance and administrative processes.
