Tinubu Advocates for Traditional Rulers' Role in Nigeria

During a farewell ceremony for the late Oba Sikiru Kayod Adetona, President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to restoring the relevance of traditional institutions within Nigeria's governance structure. He described traditional rulers as indispensable partners in promoting peace, security, and grassroots development.

The ceremony took place at Dipo Dina Stadium, honoring the late monarch who passed away in July of the previous year at the age of 91 after a 65-year reign. Tinubu noted that traditional rulers possess indigenous intelligence and moral authority, which modern institutions cannot easily replace.

He emphasized the need for traditional institutions to be recognized as critical stakeholders in preserving cultural values and strengthening social harmony. Tinubu assured that his administration would continue to support and engage traditional rulers, assigning clearer constitutional responsibilities to them.

He also called on traditional rulers to guide youth against violence and social vices, highlighting their role in conflict resolution and community security.
